Attempted Account of the Girls' Latest Shenanigans

Papers are graded! Presentations are completed! Final grades are submitted! While this typically means shutting off my brain and binge watching a fabulously terrible show on Netflix during the kids’ naptimes, my goal was to update the blog. You know, so when the kids get older, they can know that while I sure did forget about their baby books (I have written in Bria’s!) their adventures are still somewhat regularly chronicled for their future embarrassment. Unfortunately, I sat down to write down the “latest” scoop on the kids, and got to about yesterday before it started getting blurry. For example, Easter seems like about 400 years ago. I’m pretty sure it was fun! Regardless, here are the highlights Sheaff and I attempted to recall from the past few months:

Traumatically enough, Adalyn got her first “challenging day” remarks at school, providing that lovely milestone for us as parents. My own parents laughed hysterically, given that they raised 3, erm, interesting children and seem to be looking forward to said-children being on the receiving end of teacher comments. At any rate, according to Adalyn’s lovely teacher, she was taking toys from another kid and knocked stuff off a table. *parent cringe* According to Addie, “I was nice before. But then I want the toy.” Oh, social skills. We look forward to your arrival.

On the contrary, Adalyn is mostly nice to Bria, more than we expected at any rate. If Bria is crying, she likes to give her raspberries (which Bria finds hilarious); Addie loves feeding Bria at dinner, giving her small clothes, and while she occasionally knocks her flat for taking something she was using, she’s typically super gentle and constantly trying to hug [read: smoosh] Bria into a hug or hold her hand. Bria cooperates with these moments of calm love about 14% of the time.   Addie has also taken to preferring Sheaff do everything if home – from buckling a shoe to reading at night. I’m haven’t decided how I feel about being runner-up, but Sheaff Eats It Up like it is philly steak and cheese on a hoagie.

We tend to hear Annie nonstop blaring from Adalyn’s room. Forecast: the sun is seriously coming out one of these days. Perhaps tomorrow. Gynmanstics is still a regular; our kid is the one in the sparkly leotard with her underwear hanging out of the sides, often picking her nose. She’s very into surprises (putting on a new outfit, bringing a drawing, self-inked-full-body barely-removable tattoos during what's supposed to be naptime, see pic below) and needing privacy to prepare such surprises. Threenager is a term we are getting used to.

Bria is into activity of any sorts. Speed crawling, climbing, dancing, laying on Wallie, “loving” on Gracie (wack! Giggle! Wack!), etc. If she had a fitbit, it would combust. She now freaks out when Sheaff gets home, and will beat the other side of the storm door until he gets to it. She likes crawling into her rocker and getting stuck, eating chalk, stink bugs and mulch. She is a persistent de-shelver – of books, toys, pictures, boxes, really anything she can reach.  She loves stairs, splashing, kissing, and following her sister anywhere. Sheaff says he doesn’t know if she’s fearless, or clueless. Probably a mixture of both, which will be really fun in 13 years. And by fun, I mean terrifying. Her hair is commented on regularly, moreso than her ears now. The weekend Jean was here, she suggested "product" multiple times. :)

While other nearly-one-year-olds enjoy talking, Bria still enjoys the Growling dialect. She does have a few sayings. "Vruhhhhh" means vroom, for cars. “Baba!” or any sort of hyperventilating sound means Wallie. And MEEEHHHHH tends to translate to Mama/Daddy up, meatloaf , more and mine. And really anything else she is excited about.  In the middle of the night, however, she very clearly states, “Damnit, get me out of this crib and rock my wide-awake-tail back to sleep. Rest is for the weak, you slacker parents!!!!”

The warm weather has been great for backyard play. We all play in the dirt, climb the swingset while singing Mulan, construct and deconstruct villages in the sandbox, and puddle hunt on a regular basis. The girls loved their first trip of the year to the mountains, as well as the wonderful slew of family and friends we had visit over Spring Break. [Adalyn requests you all return as soon as possible]. The rapidly approaching summer should be full of our favorite people, trips, salty air, good food, pool days, and whatever adventures we dream up! We hope you're a part of them! Until then....
