Jane Elizabeth, Sheaff’s mom, who has a wonderful mix of strength, generosity, and fierce love of family

Jean Elizabeth, a woman with incredible spunk and love, who gave us the bay and Christmas morning magic, whose name and lively yellow spirit and sandy saltwater stories are also a part of my own

Rose, for Grandad and Grandma…. Bria was actually born on May 9th, the day that Grandad passed away 28 years ago. The Rose in her name is for Grandad’s rose garden, the patio and croquet games at Grandma's, the Eccles family, and the magical way roses have a way of blooming for us when most needed, reminding us of grace, perspective, and those who will always walk beside us in our journey.

Dear Friends, They say life gets busier with three kids. Whoever ‘they’ are appears to be correct, as the verdict is still out whether this letter will actually be finished or even go in the mail before Bryce gets to kindergarten.   I tried delegating this to the kids to see if they would write it for me. When I asked them what they’d say about the year, Bria’s input was “I love purple!,” Bryce brought me Wallie’s leash, and Addie said “This is boring; let’s play SCHOOL!”   Honestly, it’s not the worst summary of 2019. You may notice that our address has changed. Fanny Pack

  I bought a fanny pack this year. I could hear the thirteen-year-old me through the waves of time, gasping in horror, rolling her eyes, and giving wild huffs of embarrassment, but the mid-thirty-year-old me is like YEEEEES, I GET IT MOM!!! Not just for the fanny pack. This year, I kept a note in my phone of all the things that I used to balk in teenager dismay, that I used to do the whole “Mooooooooom. That’s so embarrassing,” thing to. And now, this blog is to say: Happy birthday Mom!!! You were right!! I GET IT!!!  Here’s my list of straight up mom-isms, to which I have crossed over and seen the light: Why yes, wearing high socks does keep your ankles warm if you have regularly cold feet, even if you’re wearing shorts. Luckily the youths have started doing this too.  Wearing your sweatshirt inside out because it just means the next time it will be right-side in. Ode to Nursing

  Nursing is a funny thing. It doesn’t work out/isn’t best for some people for many reasons, all of which are *okay* and should not be judged (this thought needs a separate post/rant). I wanted to nurse, and I feel like I got lucky and was able to. Aside from a few “preemie”-ish issues at first with Bria, I was able to feed my babies fairly easily the first year of their life and donate what seemed like a gazillion bags of milk to 2 other bab ies when their mamas didn’t have breastfeeding as an option. It’s a little bittersweet, this journey ending. I’ve pretty much either been pregnant or nursing for the last 8 years, and now we’re shifting to the next chapter. My body is just going to be my own again. It feels different and looks different and is different, but I’m thankful for what it could give. Some days were hard when I was on the every-2-hours clock.
